The I&T Directorate at SOAS is looking for a Integration Specialist to design, implement and maintain integration solutions to meet the needs of a globally facing university. About the Department


The vision of the I&T Directorate is to build on SOAS’ global standing in a rapidly evolving digital world and help every member of SOAS to achieve the digital experience which meets their needs simply and efficiently. As part of our digital transformation there are a number of key projects to be delivered over the next five years making this a great opportunity to develop your career.  The directorate comprises ~50 permanent staff organised into three distinct areas, IT Service Delivery, Enterprise Applications and Business Change & IT Governance. The Enterprise Applications team, where this role is positioned, provides support for the key business systems and is responsible for Application support, integrations, reporting platforms and Web. This role sits within the Integrations and Business Intelligence Team within Enterprise Applications.

The Business Change team provide a gateway for SOAS staff to commission new work and strengthen the relationships between the other SOAS departments and IT services – it includes Business Relationship Management, Business Analysis and Project Management functions. The IT Service Delivery team provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT support on client devices, network, telephony, AV, media, storage and servers. This includes: service desk, client platform services including teaching room support, IT security, and infrastructure.

About the Role

You will work alongside the Integration Architect and other Integration Specialists and with various other I&T colleagues to design, develop and support a range of integration solutions; contributing significantly to the School’s integration and Business Intelligence offering.

The role will be responsible for requirements gathering and analysis and translating the requirements into robust solutions which satisfy the stakeholders.  The role is also responsible for documenting and testing solutions prior to releasing them for UAT and then production deployment.  The role requires the building of good working relationships with a variety of colleagues from end-users to project managers and, occasionally, external partners or vendors.

Knowledge of the following is required:

  • Data structures
  • ETL solution development
  • SOA and web services
  • SQL and reporting technologies (predominantly MS SQL and ORACLE)
  • Windows/*nix
  • Business Intelligence
  • Master data management

About you

You will need to demonstrate experience in a representative selection of the following:

  • Development experience relating to ETL, SSIS and other middleware technologies
    Integration development experience relating to webservices, SQL and C#.
  • Ability to configure SSIS packages, SQL server, SSRS, Power BI or related technologies.
  • Experience of Microsoft Azure is desirable
  • Analytical and problem-solving capability across a broad range of IT areas not limited to the technological specialism of the role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a background in writing technical documentation.
  • A degree or postgraduate or professional qualification in a relevant subject area or substantial equivalent experience.
